Gear pumps
The gear pump is a self-priming pump for pumping low-viscosity (4cSt) to high-viscosity (>50,000 cSt) pumped media. The basic design consists of a housing with suction and discharge connections and two gear wheels. As a rule, one of these acts as a drive gear, which sets the second in rotary motion by the gearing of both.
The flow rate of the gear pump per revolution is an almost constant value and only decreases when the differential pressure rises significantly due to small backflows over the gear flanks. The backflow quantity increases with decreasing viscosity. As with all pumps, the outlet pressure depends on the pressure required by the system at the current flow rate.
